?
Isn't there a clause in the contract. It can be cancelled/eradicated?
For some amount of money?
Asking for a friend.

Thanks a former commissioner for that.

I bet they got fed up with the other 3. Sexton and Johnson was completely following Greene. And he is totally clueless about anything. He had a personal thing going on against one of the other commissioners. It is ridiculous when he thought after 1 year being on the board, that he could do a better job than someone with 20 years experience. That is his arrogance and stupidity.

When this regurgitated fake outrage blows its wad will our demoRatZ attempt to run viable candidates in '26?

Unfortunately the other 2 chose not run again.

Note that it was only the 3 that said they had to follow the plan.

Thats the point interesting fact, they claimed they HAD to do it this way because it was the "plan" that was voted on by commissioners. No deviations were acceptable.

That was just lip service since they weren't serious about the other "phases."

Did county funds pay for that EMS base?

NewKidOnTheBlock

Was it honestly a surprise with all the money they wasted on the Sheriffs Office and EMS building? 12 million for the EMS building and they didn't even put bedrooms in it for the Paramedics who work 24 hour shifts again. And they built a morgue in it that isn't going to be used a morgue.

With the economy and Wilkes County hurting financially, they better not try to add another building to their debt and the remodeling of another. That would probably be another $50M debt.

They aint going to stick to the rest of that "plan" either.

It is being sold. Any good businessman would have jumped at that purchase price. I wouldn't be surprised if the county will be forced to lease part of it due to increased costs and interest rates. And taxpayers will be stuck with this huge bill for this little 45,000 sq ft $22M building that will end up costing $32M with interest. This should not be forgotten by taxpayers. They should not be re-elected due to their following this person with no common sense or any financial responsibility in his own life and is incapable of understanding business. They kept saying "they were following the plan." The plan was made when interest rates were low and economy was good. The 3 did not understand you have a plan until a better option becomes available. So now they have stuck us with a $32M bill instead of a $7M one.

It will be interesting to see who purchased the Lowe's property and if the taxpayers have to purchase it at a later date for a lot more and if Ant gets anyone fired over it.

With all the allegations against Greene, this is how he screwed the county.

He had the opportunity to buy a $16 per sq ft building with 50 acres of land but instead got 2 other commissioners to vote to build a $490 per sq ft building and that price in without land included.

So you and your grandchildren will be paying for this huge blunder for 30 years.

His judgment is pathetic.

If they didn't waste tax payer money they wouldn't have an excuse to tax you as much to keep you down. Ashe is the same way buying land under the excuse of using it for some thing and then saying that it wont work we need to buy more land and raise your taxes to cover it. Ashe county and the school board bought land for a new middle school only to come back and say we can't use it because its not big enough and we can't get a right of way. Well how did the original property owner get to his property and why couldn't the county use eminent domain. This was after they paid Vannoy's grade and level the property. The property owner that they bought the land from made off like a thief

Then there is the property value reevaluation scam where they say look we didn't raise your taxes but the value of your property increased 25 to 50 percent.

Must've taken a leaf out of Ashe's playbook. The old courthouse still stands there as solid as a rock. The new one is still being paid for but it does have a nice plaque with the names of its sponsors, one of them a convicted felon.

But trucker if you're not part of the "in" crowd probably wouldn't have a chance ? He's passed but an ol friend told me several years ago 5 or 6 people pretty much "control " Wilkes and he said not all of them are commissioners ? I tend to think he was probably bout right ?

This is just another example of how mistaken our 3 commissioners were in their decision concerning the Lowes building . 2 voted to do a study of the Lowes property.

Guilford County schools have voted to purchase a building to relocate all of their central office staff into one large building. They will be selling 5 different office buildings currently used by their staff.

They stated that it is far more cost effective to buy this building, formerly the Lorillard headquarters, than "constructing a comparable new facility." They also used the example of city of Wilmington paying $ 183 per sq foot for a $68M building compared to what Guilford county schools are buying at $66 per sq foot.

As a comparison, the new building that 3 Wilkes Commissioners voted to build is for a 45,000 building at a cost of $490 per sq foot.

The Lowes Building is 10 times the size of $490 per sq ft building and the Lowes property would have cost $16 per square foot.

It was fully furnished with office equipment. Renovations would have been needed, like putting up walls, but with the difference between the $7M and the $22M for the new building, they would have had $15M left for those renovations. Plus they would had 50 acres of land and half of the building left to lease out.

All of the county government departments could have been located together. I have heard that this is not what county officials wanted.
Exactly why? Do some departments feel superior to other departments?

The $490 per sq ft building is only one building. And their plans are to also build another one and to remodel the old county office building. So can you just imagine the cost to taxpayers?

I feel that they made a huge mistake that taxpayers and even their grandchildren will be forced to pay for.

The Lowes building would make a great location to house asylum seekers, if we were only a democrat stronghold. Vote democrat . Biden2024.
