Metal trucker, the Lowes building was offered to the county for $7M. County has it appraised at $29M.
That was $7M for 450,000 sq ft building fully furnished with office furniture and 50 acres of land. Even Greene said he had an appraisal on land only for $7M.
Greene and his 2 buddies voted not to do it. After the public backlash, they said they would do a study. They must have had second thoughts on that too. Cause a week later, he said they were not buying building. He wanted to keep getting $300,000 a year on taxes from property. But if someone buys the place for $7M , county can't keep the appraisal at $29M .
Just shows they were over charging Lowes the whole time.
Other private people are trying to purchase it. It is the biggest blunder this county has ever made in my opinion. And we have 3 individuals to thank for that.

it would have been the RIGHT.thing to do with refurbishing our old mall.
But? I'm not in a position to put my foot down. ;)

Sexton was of the ones that wanted to do the new building and did not support a study on Lowes property. He was doing anything Greene wanted, and I hear that he still supports him. So he will not get my vote. I am ready for a Democrat. And I am a life long Republican. But if that is what the republicans have, I want somebody better than those two.

You can thank Stoney Greene for that. He got 2 other commissioners to vote for that. With interest added to the $22M, taxpayers will be paying $32M . And it is only 45,000 sq feet. And then they plan on building another building the same size and remodeling the old county building. And they could have purchased the Lowes property for $7M with 50 acres of land. And that is 10 times the size of the first one they are building. They were absolutely stupid.
Maybe we need some democrats on that board. These republicans are just doing what the county employees tell them to do in my opinion.

How irresponsible to waste that kind of money . Wilkes already has a nice building with elevators . Many rooms are vacant . Why ? We already sent our tax bills to Charlotte . Please don't do this !
