It's my understanding, though, that the OP is needing to do it herself for financial reasons. What options does she have if there's no electricity and no money to hire a pro?

You are going to have to get a permit to replace the panel because the power company will not reconnect the power without the ok from the building inspector

I have to ask... if you don't tell them, how would they know?
Any reputable licensed electrician is not going to put his license at risk and will get a permit as the law requires.
Replacing a panel is not something that you want Jo Bob's buddies' friend that lives down the street to mess with since if it's not done correctly someone could get kill or the place burned down.

And also, I wish finding a different home to rent was an option, but it's not. I don't have the extra 1400 to find somewhere with. Same as hiring an electrician.
I'm just a girl with no options, to much confidence in YouTube praying for a break. No even a long one. I wish something would give.

Like I said the landlord isn't really a landlord. He inherited a bunch of mobile homes and they have been vacant the entire time. I don't want him to have to pay for the box etc, because he DID NOT have to offer me this place to begin with. And at the agreement we made. The trailer needs a lot of work, and I can do whatever I want to it, and it be knocked off the $300 rent.

I'm not very good at asking for or receiving help.. which is crazy because I'm always the first one to offer help!
I don't like feeling like a burden or an inconvenience to people..
I am out of work yes, and that's my fault, but I have been applying everywhere with no call backs yet.. which is crazy cause I always get the job. Lol.

As I said buy a generator and only use it when needed. Get a job, save every dime you can. This person sounds homeless so he has no money. Guessing he can't afford electricians and septic. If the septic needs imspected then it could be bad. Well I doubt he can afford a generator. All in All he is on the internet so someone is paying a bill.

IDK about inspections of trailers, never lived in one. My mom did but never had the power cut off. The wiring was crap in it, sort of. Sounds like it would be better to just rent else wheres. If the person pays for all the repairs then that's different. Things like electricians are expensive. Then he talks like the septic need s work, good lord you're talking thousands. New septic are expensive. The money you spend could pay rent for a year.

The problem is that if the power connected to a residence has been disconnected for a certain period of time, Doke Power will not reconnect until it has been inspected by the proper authorities.

If the septic is working why would you need it inspected? Ours was caving so I had to get a permit. Now as far as Duke goes IDK for sure. Guessing here, if it's outside wire Duke would need calling, if it's inside and can be fixed then you decide. Can you fix it, can someone you know fix it. Electricity is not to be reckoned with. Could cost alot of money according to how you deal with it. So whats up with you being homeless? What's your problem and conditions now? Do you need work or what? Wilkesboro in the county office building EHD. When you get the permit then you call somone to fix it. The EHD will send someone to tell you where it goes and what they need to use, it will cost big buck. You could rent a apartment cheaper. A electricain is expensive, we had a fuse box and change over to 200amp service, then duke inspected it. The electrician 10 years ago was 900 dollars and duke was no charge So it could get expensive. Get a small generator, electic heater, and walk for entertainment untill you get back on you feet. Ask for help, people can be kind.

I would complete the electrical installation prior to contacting the inspection department. As you are not the owner, permits will need to be in his name. It would be my advice to schedule a visit to inspection department and discuss the situation. They can be helpful and you can avoid potential problems which may occur.

Don't say anything to the inspector about the fuse box. Unless a licensed electrician puts it in.

i don't think so, the one that owns the trailer needs to call duke and they turn it on. septic, no. you are just renting not buying. its no big deal.

I'm renting a mobile home from a close friend whose agreed to this as a favor for me. (So I want this to be as seamless for him as possible)
The home I'm renting has been vacant for 5 years, and does need some work to be liveable (which I've agreed to do) I'm having to replace the entire fuse panel box, reconnect wires that some wonderful people (shondra and drake potts) decided to cut out of spite.

What inspections do I need to get power turned on and such? Will the entire home have to pass before I can have power? Or is it just certain things? I'm not sure how that works as this is my first time renting. The owner isn't really a landlord, he doesn't rent out the properties, like I said he's just helping me out. So going to him for guidance or know how isn't really an option cause he doesn't know either haha

I need to get this situtated asap, or I'll be living in my car.

Inspections required for reconnection?
For septic?
Anything else?
